THURSDAY AFTER ASH WEDNESDAY (III)
Day of fast (Traditional).
Collect: O God, who by sin art offended and by penance appeased, mercifully regard the prayers of Thy suppliant people: and turn aside the scourges of Thine anger, which we deserve for our sins. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who livest and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end.
Lesson: From the Prophet Isaias, 38:1-6.
Gospel: Continuation of the holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, 8:5-13.
ST. ROMUALD, Abbot (Comm.)
"St. Romuald founded the Order of the Camaldoli, one of the branches of the Benedictine Order, in which the eremitical life is united with the cenobitical. He died at the age of 120, A.D. 1027.”
Collect: May the intercession of blessed Romuald, the Abbot, commend us unto Thee, O Lord: so that what we cannot acquire by any merits of ours, we may obtain by his patronage. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who livest and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end.
Lesson: From the Book of Ecclesiasticus, 45:1-6.
