SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT (I)
"Let the sight of the grandeur of Jesus transfigured prepare us for a brief contemplation of the humiliation of His Passion.”
Collect: O God, who seest that we are wholly destitute of strength, keep us within and without: that we may be defended in body from all adversity: and cleansed in mind from evil thoughts. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, Who livest and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end.
Epistle: From the First Letter of Bl. Paul the Apostle to the Thessalonians, 4:1-7.
[God our Creator and our Lord “hath called us not unto uncleanness, but unto sanctification, in Christ Jesus our Lord.”]
Gospel: Continuation of the holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, 17:1-9.
[Transfiguration of our Lord Jesus Christ on Mount Tabor; manifestation of the divinity of Jesus.]
Remarks are abstracted from The Daily Missal and Liturgical Manual, from Editio Typica of the Roman Missal and Breviary, 1962
